Teeth Whitening in Kenmore
Sometimes all you need to improve your smile is whiter teeth. At Princeton Dental, we offer in-chair and take-home teeth whitening to help you get the beautiful, bright smile you’re looking for.
What to Expect: In-Chair Whitening
We recommend in-chair whitening for patients who need a brighter smile immediately—for example, for wedding photos or an important event—or for those who don’t want the hassle of at-home whitening.
We start with an examination to determine if your teeth are suitable for whitening. In some cases, worn enamel or other conditions can cause teeth to be damaged by the bleach, leaving them extremely sensitive, so we won’t bleach in those cases. Next, we’ll do a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth, which can prevent the bleaching gel from penetrating the tooth.
At your whitening appointment, we’ll protect your gums, tongue and all the soft tissues and then apply the bleaching agent to your teeth. This is a much stronger concentration than that offered in at-home or over-the-counter products. You’ll be in the office for two hours while the gel does its work, then we’ll rinse everything off and send you home with an at-home whitening kit for future touch-ups.
What to Expect: At-Home Whitening
As with the in-chair process, we’ll do a thorough examination and cleaning. We’ll take moulds of your teeth to create your personalised whitening trays. When they’re ready, we will give you the trays and the bleaching material to use. You’ll use the whitening gel every night until the desired shade is achieved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is professional teeth whitening safe?
We begin with a full examination to make sure your teeth and gums are suitable for whitening. Some conditions, including worn enamel or periodontal disease, can make bleaching uncomfortable or not the best option. You will also have a thorough clean beforehand. During the appointment we protect your gums, tongue and soft tissues so the process stays as gentle as possible.
How long will the whitening results last?
Most people enjoy their brighter smile for several months and sometimes up to a year. It depends on your diet, smoking habits and how consistent you are with your daily oral care.
What is the difference between in-chair and take-home whitening?
In-chair whitening is completed in the clinic and uses a stronger bleaching agent. The visit usually takes around two hours. Take-home whitening uses custom-made trays and a professional grade gel. You use the trays at home over several evenings and the whitening changes appear more gradually.
Am I a good candidate for whitening?
Suitability is checked during your examination and clean. This helps us understand if whitening is right for you and what results are realistic.
How should I prepare for my whitening appointment?
A check-up and clean is always recommended before whitening. Removing any plaque or tartar helps the bleaching gel work more evenly across your teeth.
What foods or habits should I avoid afterwards to maintain the results?
To help your brighter smile last, try to avoid smoking, limit dark staining drinks and foods , and keep up good home care.
Will whitening affect fillings, veneers or crowns?
Whitening gels do not lighten restorations in the same way they lighten natural enamel. If you have fillings, veneers or crowns, we will talk through what to expect so you can make an informed choice.
Which to Choose?
At-home whitening is less expensive ($300) and whitens teeth gradually, using products that are stronger than over-the-counter options, but not as strong as in-chair products. In-chair whitening is more expensive ($800), but whitens teeth in two hours.
