Dental Crowns & Bridges in Kenmore
A crown is a cap that covers the entire tooth to make it stronger. It’s used when a tooth is cracked or weakened, or after a root canal treatment when the internal structure of the tooth is compromised. A crown can be made of metal, porcelain or a combination of the two. A bridge is three or more crowns that are joined together to fill in the space where a tooth is missing.
What to Expect
When you need a crown, the first step will be to prepare the tooth. At your first appointment, we will polish the tooth and remove some tooth material to make room for the crown. Then we’ll take a mould of the tooth and send it to our premium lab for fabrication. If there is any question about perfectly matching the colour of the crown to your existing teeth, we will refer you to the lab as well so they can accurately colour-match. In the meantime, we’ll place a temporary crown to protect your tooth while the permanent crown is being made.
When the crown is ready (usually within two weeks), we’ll bring you in for your second appointment, where we will remove the temporary crown and cement the permanent crown in place. Throughout the process, your dentist will explain everything that will happen and answer all of your questions. Our fees for crowns start at $1,600 (before your health fund rebate.)

Caring for Your Crowns
We’ll demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques to help you keep your teeth healthy and extend the life of your crown. With bridges, there is some additional care that needs to be taken to floss underneath the false tooth to prevent bacteria from building up there. We also recommend check-ups and cleanings every six months. With proper oral hygiene, your crowns can last between 15 and 20 years.
